About Writing for Change

I was raised with my younger brother by my parents in Scarborough, Ontario, until the age of 17 when we moved out of the big city to the smaller town of Cobourg. I graduated from high school in Cobourg and began my journey in the field of journalism at Belleville College in Ontario. In 2001, I became a father for the first time. While attending college, I worked part-time as a news reporter for the local radio station in Cobourg and also held a part-time job at a local grocery store.

At the age of 32, I started a new relationship with my girlfriend at the time. I was blessed to become a father again, this time to my daughter. However, things took a wrong turn when I was 33. I struggled with anger issues and was diagnosed with schizophrenia, leading to hospitalization. During those dark years, I turned to alcohol and substances to cope with depression and anger.

Now, at 48 years old, both of my children are doing well, as are their mothers. I’ve come to realize that striving for perfection is impossible; instead, I focus on living a fulfilling life. Writing has always been my passion, and my journalism background paved the way for where I am today. My goal is to continue writing, overcome the stigma associated with mental illness, and gain recognition for my work. I appreciate the courage of others who, like me, have faced their own challenges and pursued their passions despite societal stigmas.

If you’d like to support my writing, please consider donating $5 or more. Your contribution will help me produce more stories and continue sharing my experiences.

Thank you, and may you be blessed!.

Frequently asked questions

I try to answer common questions I receive. If you have a question let me know.

What inspired you to write?

I always had an interest to tell a story by writing through grade school. It finally dawned on me to go and see where this can take me; to start writing seriously.

I'd like to support you on your journey. What will you do with the money?

I'd really like to earn some money with my writing to be able to support myself. I'd really like to take a few writing courses and get some new equipment to start making audiobooks of my stories.

What are the payment methods you accept for donations?

We thought that PayPal was the easiest way to accept donations/gifts. Anything helps. It is very difficult to maintain any regular work with mental illness. I really hope that I can one day support myself through my writing. Thank you for anything you can give, if possible please consider signing up for monthly gifts.

How often do you release stories?

I hope to release stories on a regular basis. When I'm feeling good I'm able to write more. I also hope to narrate the stories as audiobooks. Maybe one day in a podcast too.

Who made your website?

My brother helped me come up with this website. He always supported my interests in Journalism and broadcasting. Once I told him I'd like to write a book but didn't know how to publish or afford too we came up with the idea of Writing for Change.

How did journalism influence your decision to write Fictional stories?

In my career I've written countless news stories for air. I wanted to write even more and began to think outside the box and try what I've always truly wanted too and that's writing to Fiction.

How can I contact you?

Reach out to me by Email. My brother setup an alias email to start to prevent spam and such. However, all legitamite emails will be responded to from my main one.
